The D40x is an update to D40. It offers pretty much the same features with a slightly higher pixel count. It does not, however, offer the same high speed flash sync of the D40, so for many people this makes the D40x less useful than the D40. Still, though, it remains a good solid camera. Don't pay more for Nikon D40x bodies than you need to. If you go to a lot of retail stores, you'll find that you'll to pay a lot more for the same thing. This is because the regular stores have you as somewhat of a captive audience.
