Nikon D200 Camera Body

Nikon D200 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body Only)

Part of the venerable Nikon Dxx series, the D200 is Nikon's last generation semi-professional camera body (followed up by the D300). Even today, it remains a good buy for those looking for a compact, yet rugged DSLR with semi-professional features. The D200 offers 11 autofocus points, and a shooting speed of five frames per second.  It is house in a rugged magnesium frame body, which gives it a bit more heft than most prosumer level cameras on the market.  It's not the latest technology, but the D200 remains a solid buy for many.

Nikon D2X Camera Body

NIKON D2X SLR 12.4 Megapixel Digital Camera

The D2x was Nikon's flagship professional camera in the days before the D3.  For those looking for a high quality, pro-build camera at a low price, this is the camera for you.  Sure, it's still crop sensor, and the shooting speed of 5 frames per second is nothing to write home about, but it is still an effective camera for many.  If you choose to buy one of these, you'll have a pro quality camera that has served many well in the past.  It just wont be as flashy as a newer model.  Think about it, the D2x may be just perfect for your needs.

Nikon D40 Camera Body

Nikon D40 6.1MP Digital SLR Camera Kit with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G Kit Lens

The Nikon D40 is a modern day classic.  When it was released, it was one of the cheapest DSLRs out there.  It was also the smallest.  In most areas of electronics, you wind up paying a premium for small size and compactness.  Not so with the D40.  Offering very good image quality (a huge leap up from any point and shoot on the market, for sure) in a tiny, compact, reliable, easy to use package, the D40 soon became a massive hit.

Even to this day, the Nikon D40 is well loved.  It makes a great compact camera for those who own Nikon lenses.  It also makes a perfect camera for those beginners looking for an affordable way to get started in digital photography.  Since it offer full manual control and very good image quality, it's hard to go wrong, especially for the price.  Check it out today.

Nikon D40x Bodies

Nikon D60 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera with 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6G Kit Lens

The D40x is an update to D40. It offers pretty much the same features with a slightly higher pixel count. It does not, however, offer the same high speed flash sync of the D40, so for many people this makes the D40x less useful than the D40. Still, though, it remains a good solid camera.  If you're looking for a new camera in this same form factor, check out the D3000.

Don't pay more for Nikon D40x bodies than you need to. If you go to a lot of retail stores, you'll find that you'll to pay a lot more for the same thing. This is because the regular stores have you as somewhat of a captive audience. Here at Discount DSLRs, if you don't like the prices, you can just go somewhere else with a few clicks and get the exact same thing. However, if you are at a regular store, you can't as easily go somewhere else and get the same thing. Thus, it is competition that brings you these low prices, not any sort of scam. If you want to find other products beside Nikon D40x bodies at similarly low prices, try searching above.

Nikon D5000

Buy Nikon D500 from B&H

The D5000 is quite a unique camera.  While it is the spiritual successor of affordable, compact cameras in the Nikon line such as the D60, the D5000 manages to cost a little bit more, be a little bit larger, while offering quite a few more features than it's ancestors ever had.  One of the first features that sticks out when examining the D5000 is the swivel screen it offers.  This feature, when coupled with live view, comes in handy when trying to take shots in tight situations.

The sensor of the D5000 is also noteworthy.  It provides very high quality images at higher ISOs when compared with previous generation cameras.  Like other recent Nikon DSLRs, the D5000 has the ability to take high definition video.  The addition of the swivel screen makes this feature more useful than with other DSLRs, but I wouldn't buy the camera based on this fact.  What makes this camera stand out is the amazing image quality and features packed into a tiny, compact, travel worthy body.

Nikon D80 Camera Body

Nikon D80 10.2MP Digital SLR Camera (Body only)

Before the D90, there was the Nikon D80.  The D80 is in Nikon Dxx "prosumer" line, which means it is quite feature rich while still remaining within range of many hobbyists budgets.  While the features of the D80 are probably overkill for those just looking to step up to a DSLR, the D80 is a great option for those serious hobbyists who can appreciate features like the built in wireless CLS (creative lighting system) flash control.

Since the D80 is now an older model, you can get some great prices on this still great camera.  If you're looking for a backup for your D90, or simply a feature rich first camera at a great price, give the D80 a look.

Sony Alpha A230

Alpha A230 Digital SLR with 18-55mm Lens

Canon and Nikon have been the big guns in the world of SLRs for ages, but Sony has gained market share fast, due to a very solid product offering. One of their unique selling points is the highly effective in body image stabilization system, which gives you a stabilized image with every lens.

The A230 is the current entry level model into the Sony line, and it offers some impressive features for its price. You get a 10 megapixel sensor, 9 point AF, eye start autofocus, and the normal in body stabilization. It comes in a very small and compact body, making it perfect for the travelers out there. Of course, there are a few caveats with Sony bodies, such as the proprietary flash system, but the A230 is such a solid camera at a great price that I would be willing to look past that issue. If you're looking for an entry level alternative to Nikon and Canon, the Alpha A230 is the camera to get.
